From 2014 to 2024, a total of 56 mining traffic accidents occurred, resulting in 91 miners dead and more than 33 miners injured.

Research

Due to the typically large size of mining vehicles and the narrowness of mine shafts, significant blind spots are created, cause huge safety risks.

High temperature underground

Contrary to what one might imagine, the underground environment is extremely hot, causing many miners to work shirtless. The deeper they go, the higher the temperature, reaching up to40°C.

Obvious Tyndall effect

There is abundant dust underground and the environment is relatively dark, leading to a noticeable Tyndall effect.

Low safety coefficient

The safety coefficient of underground mine is low, there is no active safety system, people and vehicles can not get effective communication and make timely avoidance.

About interview

Pain points

In order to find out pain points of miners in their daily work, an interview was made with five senior miners.

There is a lot of oil and grime underground, which can easily obstruct vision, so the equipment needs to be easy to clean.

Under high-intensity work conditions, miners need PPE that is straightforward and easy to use, simplifying their tasks. Additionally, it should be lightweight to minimize extra weight burden.

MODULAR DESIGN

Each component is modular design, can be disassembled and cleaned greasy dirty separately, and can be replaced after damage to reduce replacement costs.

There is a buckle to connect personal protective equipment and helmet.

Strips can be torn of to keep goggles clean when goggles getting greasy dirty.

The foldable stand allows it to be lifted when goggles are not in use, reducing line of sight resistance.

As the distance gets closer and closer, the sound and vibration will have different degrees of progression, when the distance reaches the stopping zone, the intensity is the strongest.

A loudspeaker in the earmuffs alarms when a vehicle approaches.

A vibration motor in the earmuffs vibrates when a vehicle approaches, alerting miners by vibrating the skin.
